UK ANCESTRY VISA

The UK Ancestry Visa allows Commonwealth citizens who have a grandparent born in the UK to live and work in the UK. This visa permits you to seek employment and eventually settle in the UK.

Key Benefits:

  • No Work Restrictions: You are free to take up any employment or self-employment without restrictions.

  • Pathway to Settlement: After five years on this visa, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), providing a route to permanent residency in the UK.

Eligibility for the UK Ancestry Visa

To qualify for the UK Ancestry Visa, you must:

  1. Be a Commonwealth Citizen: You must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country and 17 years of age or older.

  2. Prove Ancestry: You must demonstrate that you have a grandparent who was born in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man. This can be from either your maternal or paternal side.

  3. Adopted Individuals: You can claim ancestry if you are adopted or if your parent through whom you are claiming ancestry was adopted. Ancestry can be claimed if you or your parent were born in the UK, whether within or outside of marriage. However, ancestry cannot be claimed through step-parents.

  4. Employment Intent: You must intend to work and be capable of working in the UK.

  5. Financial Self-Sufficiency: You must be able to support and accommodate yourself and any dependants without relying on public funds.

SPOUSE & DEPENDANT OF THE ANCESTRAL

Holders of the UK Ancestry Visa can apply for their spouse, civil partner, unmarried partner, and dependent children to join them in the UK.

Key Points for Dependants:

  • Duration of Stay: Dependants will be granted the same period of leave as the main visa holder.

  • Work Rights: Dependants are allowed to work in the UK without any restrictions.

  • Immigration Health Surcharge: Both the main applicant and their dependants are required to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge as part of their application.
