New Zealand international border is reopening

You can travel to New Zealand now if you are:

  • the partner or dependent child of a New Zealand citizen or resident, and you hold a visa based on this relationship

  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident visa holder

  • a working holiday visa holder

  • a work visa holder and you still meet the visa conditions

  • a student visa holder and you still meet the visa conditions

  • a visitor visa holder

  • a visa waiver traveller who holds an NZeTA

  • someone who met a critical purpose reason to travel and was granted a visa as an exception to the border restrictions

  • a transit visa holder.

Visa waiver travellers and work, working holiday, visitor and student visa holders can leave and return to New Zealand if their visa conditions allow for this.

The following people can enter New Zealand now from anywhere in the world and self-test on arrival.

  • Vaccinated and unvaccinated New Zealand citizens

  • Vaccinated New Zealand residents

  • Vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents

  • Current temporary work and student visa holders, with a valid visa who can still meet their visa requirements. This includes both visa holders currently offshore, and those in New Zealand who choose to travel overseas and wish to return

  • Up to 5,000 international students, for semester 2

  • Vaccinated travellers with a border exception

  • Vaccinated travellers on a working holiday scheme

  • Vaccinated travellers from countries who do not need a visa (visa waiver visitors)

  • Vaccinated travellers from other countries who already hold a valid visitor visa

  • Other vaccinated eligible travellers under current border settings
