Start-up Visa Overview
The Start-up Visa operates outside the UK’s Points-Based Immigration System and replaces the former Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa. This visa is designed for non-EU citizens who wish to establish a business in the UK.
To qualify, applicants must first secure endorsement for their business idea from an authorized body. The Start-up Visa is valid for two years and provides the opportunity to switch to the Innovator Visa category if desired.
Key advantages of the Start-up Visa include:
-
No Investment Requirements: Unlike some other visa routes, there are no mandatory investment requirements.
-
No UK Employer Needed: Applicants do not need to demonstrate involvement with a UK employer.
ENDORSEMENT BY AN APPROVED BODY
The first step in applying for a Start-up Visa is to obtain endorsement from a Home Office-approved body. This body will either be a UK higher education institution or a business organization with a proven track record of supporting UK entrepreneurs.
The approved body will evaluate your business idea based on its novelty, innovation, and growth potential. Please note that the business idea must be original and cannot involve joining or investing in an existing business.
The Home Office publishes a list of authorized endorsing bodies. We can assist you in securing endorsement from an approved body and will provide comprehensive guidance throughout the process.
